As is the case with the majority of resident hunters in British Columbia, the Guide Outfitters Association of BC (GOABC) believes strongly in conservative wildlife management in our province, and will not support liberal, unsustainable hunting regulations that lead to diminished, unhealthy wildlife populations.
Helping Wildlife
Members of the GOABC have a long history of working hard on many different wildlife conservation and habitat enhancement projects all over British Columbia. From funding wildlife research, enhancing salmon streams, improving habitat for various species, to providing dollars for wildlife patrols and highway reflectors, GOABC has always been there and will continue to be there.
Habitat Conservation Trust Fund
Members of GOABC and their clients, along with all other hunters in British Columbia, contribute to this government-managed fund through a license surcharge. Over the past 14 years, the Fund, which was created by an Act of the Legislature, has provided over $23 million for more than 1,500 fish and wildlife enhancement projects in the province.
Mountain Goats - Preparing for the Future
An Action Plan for the Mountain Goat
On December 8th and 9th, 2009, the Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia hosted their third annual GOABC Wildlife Stewardship Series workshop. This year the species discussed was Mountain Goats and the workshop was held at the Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC.
The purpose of this GOABC workshop was to gather information from scientific experts, the knowledgeable public, and leading partners in wildlife stewardship to answer important questions about the management of mountain goats.
Professional consultants, government biologists, First Nations representatives and conservation experts provided insight and direction about the future needs of Mountain Goat and their habitat. There were many presentations and recommendations brought forward.
